When Books Burgers and Brews was discussed over 3 years ago as a potential “What if a book club in a restaurant atmosphere could be a thing,” no one knew then that this idea would be going strong and growing over 33 book discussions later. Yet, here we are. In May, Books Burgers and Brews […]
It’s All About Tomatoes!
Chef Matt Annand recently spent a little time celebrating ‘All Things Tomato’ at Landsburg Nursery in Brainerd Minnesota. Speaking to an engaged crowd, Matt offered up a tasty cooking demonstration, salsas, and with the help of the mad skills of Prairie Bay’s Bartender Dave Michael – the freshest tastiest Bloody Mary of this upcoming […]
Happy Hour For A Cause
I attended last night’s Happy Hour For A Cause at Prairie Bay for The Crossings Arts Alliance. It is no secret that I LOVE LOVE nonprofits and seem to have found my way to them over a great portion of my life. It was a great event, lots of COMMUNITY and an easy fundraiser for this incredible nonprofit.
Prairie Bay has put on a Happy Hour For A Cause for 13 years now. I have been lucky enough to work with these nonprofits and their HHFAC for the last 4 years. It is such a great way to connect with what is happening in our amazing community and learn more about what services are offered and what things there are to do and be a part of.
So what is Happy Hour For A Cause?
Happy Hour For A Cause is held on Second Thursdays from 5 to 7 pm. Each late October a committee gets together a chooses the nonprofits for the upcoming year that will hold these coveted spots. When a nonprofit is selected, they are given tools to prepare for a successful event. The nonprofit then promotes and collects RSVPs. They provide two people to collect the $15 at the door and 100% of that $15 will go to the nonprofit. Prairie Bay provides light appetizers for up to 50 guests and Cash Wise Liquor in Baxter provides wine tasting. Guests enjoy the light apps and wine for their $15 as well as get a chance to support
I love being a part of a company that gives back to its community.
Last year, we added Iron Range Eatery to the Happy Hour For A Cause plan and were able to add nonprofits that are in the Cuyuna Lakes area. In May of this year, we are thrilled to also add Sherwood Forest to the Happy Hour For A Cause venues.
How do you get your nonprofit involved?
Applications can be found on the Prairie Bay and Iron Range Eatery websites. You can fill them out any time for the 2020 season. At this time, those interested in Sherwood Forest can say so on the Prairie Bay applications (Sherwood Application will be set up soon)
Trivia Night at Prairie Bay: Harry Potter Fail
Every 4th Monday of the month is Trivia Night at Prairie Bay. Starting at 6 PM, host Phil Holbrook will lead the participants for the evening through a series of questions. These may be anything from a movie clip where you name the actors, movie, and year it came out; to what year did […]
Sushi Anyone?
Any Sushi lovers out there? I am. I love the fresh taste and the mixing and matching of flavors. …but making it? Uhhh… no. No idea how. Last night my husband and I attended Matt Annand’s Class on ‘Simple Sushi and Sashimi‘ that was offered through the Brainerd Community Education Guide. I have tried […]
Gin Dinner Experience
On Friday June 15th I had the opportunity to be a part of the Gin Dinner at Sherwood Forest. While gin is absolutely not my thing, hanging out with friends absolutely is – and my friend Laurel wanted to go. Always open to an experience… I agreed. We arrived a little early so we […] […]
Think And Drink Trivia – My… How We Have Grown
What a night! With 34 people in the room this past Monday it was a full (and fun!) house. Trivia Host Phil Holbrook had a good sized group to use his mad skills on with random knowledge such as – What is the most photographed/filmed park in the world? What is the capital of […] […]
